In celebration of October being National Arts and Humanities Month, the City of Santa Clarita hosts ARTober every year, offering free arts and humanities festivities throughout the month of October in the City of Santa Clarita. ARTober is a full-month celebration of the Arts.

While Covid 19 has definitely changed the way we are doing things this year, there is still a full month of virtual, online and in-person events to celebrate ARTober, and we hope you join us! California (e)Scape Challenge

OCTOBER 1 
Take the VIRTUAL Escape Challenge HERE!

The latest Santa Clarita public art piece “California Scape” is due to be unveiled on
October 15th and the artist has asked you to help get everything ready for the big event.
Unfortunately, everything you need has been scattered all over Santa Clarita. Using clues
to solve the puzzles, your goal is to track down all the items and make it to the unveiling
on time. A $50 gift certificate is on the line for one one lucky winner.
The game goes LIVE on October 1.


10 by 10 Variety Night

OCTOBER 1 
VIRTUAL performance – 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

10 by 10 is a variety night giving ten selected entertainers the chance to take the stage (virtually, in our online edition) for a ten minute performance of their choosing. Audience members will enjoy storytelling, magic, comedy, improv, music, and other forms of entertainment at this ever-changing event. The event is FREE! As an added bonus – Even Steven, host of “You’re the Best,” will make a special appearance to announce the WINNER of September’s online edition of “You’re the Best!”

New Heights Development Series

The FREE Arts Symposium joins New Heights Artists Development Series during ‘ARTOBER’ for a sequence of workshops and panel discussions designed to engage and educate creative individuals, no matter what level of experience.

Join The MAIN on Saturday, October 3, at 7:00 p.m. for a virtual panel discussion, “You’re the Curator: Creating Your Own Online Exhibits.”
Learn how to effectively utilize various online virtual exhibition platforms. This session is designed to motivate artists, and offer insight and understanding of creating your own online exhibition.

Flutterby Open Art Studio

OCTOBER 3
ARTree Community Arts Center – 10:00 a.m. to noon

The ARTree is continuing Flutterby Open Art Studio on the first Saturday of every month – but with a twist!
They are offering $10 Art Kits To-Go, each containing five craft projects, You can pick them up on Saturday, October 3, from 10am to Noon. You DO need to pre-register to make sure they don’t run out.

New Public Art VIRTUAL Dedication Ceremony
California Scape

OCTOBER 15
Fair Oaks Park, 17468 Honey Maple Street, Canyon Country
– Ceremony can be viewed via Facebook Live – HERE – starting at 9am on 10/15.

The newest public art piece is now open for all to enjoy. California Scape is a new
permanent sculpture at Fair Oaks Park. The theme of this piece is ‘reflection,’ as in
meditative, contemplative, and the calm that comes with being in nature. This piece is
centered around a young elm tree which will grow and mature over time,
bringing further beauty to the park and the sculpture.


ARTober Public Art Scavenger Hunt 

OCTOBER 20 – OCTOBER 31
Old Town Newhall

Locate a buried treasure? Take an underwater selfie? Travel back in time? Yes, you will
do it all in the ARTober Public Art Scavenger Hunt, as well as enter to win a $50 gift card
for The Old Town Junction restaurant. Use photo clues to navigate your way around

Old Town Newhall. Download and view The Hunt HERE starting October 20. You can print out copies or just jot your answers down as you search.

Then get ready for their two-day Autumn sale where our local SCV Potters will showcase their
work at an outdoor event on November 7 and November 8.

Sidewalk Poetry Project 2021

Entries Open mid-October

The City of Santa Clarita is accepting short poem entries for the Sidewalk Poetry Project from residents and individuals with connections or ties to Santa Clarita. The Sidewalk Poetry Project stamps original poetry into sections of damaged sidewalks that are being rehabilitated, so final locations will be determined by availability. Selected poems may be placed near parks, bus stops, trailheads, crosswalks, schools or shopping centers. Specifics on theme and deadline coming soon! Entry details will be available HERE.
