In 2021, the City of Santa Clarita proudly unveiled “Comunitree,” a sculpture by artist C.J. Rench, at the Canyon Country Community Center. This work of art was designed as the gateway for the center, embodying the values of strength, unity, and community spirit.

“Comunitree,” crafted from stainless steel and featuring kinetic leaves of steel and acrylic plexiglass, represented more than just decoration. It symbolized the interconnectedness and mutual support within a thriving community. Designed to echo the resilience of local oak trees, the sculpture’s leaves reflected the diverse and supportive nature of Santa Clarita’s residents.

Artist C.J. Rench, known for his large-scale abstract designs, drew inspiration from the natural world to create “Comunitree.” The sculpture, while rooted in the imagery of trees, transcended traditional representations, offering a unique sculptural interpretation that paid homage to the local foliage.  C.J. Rench, a self-taught sculptor with a background in industrial engineering and project design, had been a prominent figure in public art since 2004. His work, including over 30 large-scale installations across the U.S., reflected a commitment to creating meaningful and impactful art that resonated with communities.
