Gary Friedman will be exhibiting during the theatre’s production of “The Cemetery Club” and “Rex’s Exes”. World traveler, instructor, member of California Art Club, National Watercolor Society, Valley Watercolor Society and Santa Clarita Artists Association, Gary works in various mediums: pen sketches, value markers and most notably watercolors.

Awards for watercolors include first place finishes at SCAA Art Classic events, Best of Show 2012 and 2015, 1st place in Masters Division 2016 and Merit award 2017. VWS awards include cash awards in society shows, Canson Paper Award for Top Honor in 2016, Richeson Award for Special Honor in 2017 and cash award Top Honor 2018. The Santa Clarita Artists’ Association Gallery is hosting an exhibit of fine art by the members of the association.  Fifteen local artists will be exhibiting their work. The gallery is open most evenings Thursdays through Sundays. Hours may vary.

A reception will be held Friday, March 9th from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm.

Note that the closing date of the show has been changed to April 28 due to conflict with the Spring Art Show at Le Chene on April 29.

The MAIN is hosting an exhibit featuring a collection of works by local youth artists who participated in this year’s Youth Arts Showcase. A reception for the artists will be held on April 13 from 4:00 p.m. through 6:00 p.m. Guests attending this free reception will enjoy light refreshments and have an opportunity to meet the young artists.

“Metamorphosis” features repurposed mixed media artwork by artist Paige Bridges. Paige uses photography and design as a starting point for her artwork and builds on them to create collages utilizing a mixture of magazine clippings, found objects and other items collected since childhood.

“My work is a layered expression of my love for the arts,” says Paige. She uses repurposed materials in her collages to “find the hidden potential in these items, transforming them into something more pleasing and showing that there is always more to things than meets the eye.”

In her youth, Paige was surrounded by artists who allowed her to experience and appreciate all mediums of art. In the ‘70s she fell in love with printmaking while attending Barnsdall Art Center in Los Angeles. She continued her education with the art program at Los Angeles Valley College and eventually majored in art at Cal State Long Beach with an emphases on printmaking.

The exhibit will be available for viewing during all events at The MAIN, as well as Tuesday through Friday from 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. An art reception will take place on Thursday, March 15, 2018 from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. The community is invited to view Bridges’ artwork, enjoy light refreshments and meet the artist.

The College of the Canyons Art Gallery presents the work of Los Angeles-based artist and former COC Gallery Director Larry Hurst. The one-person exhibition brings together works from three areas of Hurst’s aesthetic investigations: his precise and elegant geometric abstract paintings; his nuanced and poetic collage; and his intensively hand-crafted, often humorous sculptures (which Hurst attributes to his alter-ego, Guy Leadbetter).

Materially diverse and conceptually rigorous, Hurst’s aesthetic is at once painstaking and playful, exacting and improvisational, lush and subdued. His works reveal the influence of art historical precedents, such as John McLaughlin, Frederick Hammersley, and H.C. Westermann, and are distinguished by their intricate craftsmanship, formal sophistication, and sense of humor.

Hurst has been active in the Los Angeles art scene since the 1970’s and is a graduate of the Chouinard Art Institute. His work has been exhibited throughout the United States and in particular Southern California, and is in numerous private and public collections.

The gallery is open 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays. Those unable to visit the gallery during normal hours are welcome to contact the gallery to schedule a viewing appointment.

Local award winning artist, Sandy Fisher, will be exhibiting a selection of landscape and botanical oil paintings along with a variety of giclée prints starting on February 3rd and continuing through February 28th.

“Creative outlets have been a lifelong pursuit of mine and I turned to oil painting in 2005, and was blessed to win my first award.  Finally, I had found the direction and purpose of my creative drive.  Now, I cannot imagine doing anything else as painting is life itself for me. The landscape of the West and California, particularly the unspoiled open spaces of the coast, desert, valleys and mountains are my favorite subject matter.  I am especially intrigued by the play of light and shadow and the mingling of warm and cool hues, which captivate my heart and provides the catalyst for me to put brush to canvas in an effort to convey to the viewer my emotional response to the scene.” – Sandy Fisher

A “meet the artist” reception with appetizers and refreshments will be held on Saturday, February 10th, from 1 – 4 p.m.

Colors hold significance for people around the world. Not only do colors influence emotion, but they also hold meaning in religion in various cultures.  Red can indicate all things intense and passionate as well as sincerity.  The meanings of red and people’s reactions to it tend to be fairly consistent across all age groups and cultures.  Art in this exhibit features, highlights, or uses the color red exclusively in the piece.
