In June of 2015, the Calgrove Fire burned through all of Wildwood Canyon Open Space in Santa Clarita. While fire is a natural part of the Southern California ecosystem, it can have devastating effects for the area it burns. Kristina has created images that document and explore how the natural phenomenon of fire has affected this open space and the native species that inhabit the area.
Kristina Jacob is an avid photographer who loves to blend her geographic background with photography. The Los Angeles-based photographer moves from macro shots of flowers to broad landscape shots as she rebuilds a unique view of the world around her. Since picking up her first SLR years ago, she hasn’t stopped exploring life, nature and architecture through her lens.

Morgan is an award-winning artist whose work has been exhibited at the SCAA Gallery of Santa Clarita, the Lonny Chapman Theatre and JET Studios in Noho, the Canyon Theatre Guild and the REP in Old Town Newhall, numerous local Santa Clarita venues, the Valley Fair, and other art fairs and shows throughout L.A. County. Her original paintings and prints reside in homes and businesses all over the world.
“I’m intrigued by historical architecture and most of my work contains part of a house, castle, cottage, cabin, barn or other structure,” Morgan said. “Many of my paintings have windows or doors, arches and pathways. These mean to me adventure, surprise and levels of spirituality. I’m also fascinated by man’s use of natural substances such as stone, brick and wood, and I often add these to my work as well. Equally, I love flowers and gardens and try to include them wherever I can.”
A wine and hors d’oeuvres reception will be held Saturday, October 7 from 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm.

Features “Scenes from My Travels” by artist Jane Dietz. This exhibit features scenes the artist has observed while traveling or in everyday life. Jane’s earliest recollection growing up in Santa Barbara was observing the play of light and shadow as they danced through the day. Then the glorious display of color she saw exhibited in flowers, balloons and fabrics excited her little four year old mind and emotions. Much of her young life was consumed by creative pursuits. Through the years, some college classes and instructors have helped and encouraged the workmanship involved in the creative process. Often as she observes a scene or someone enjoying a happy occasion, the desire arises to record the event on canvas. What a joy it is for her to produce images, sculptures, mosaics and decorative surroundings for others to enjoy.

This space is located in the lobby of The MAIN theatre in Old Town Newhall and focuses on exhibiting a more contemporary approach to art by local and regional, up-and-coming and established artists. The gallery showcases a solo exhibit by a new artist every month and hosts an artist reception on the third Thursday of each month.

Thirty years ago, in 1987, the City of Santa Clarita was founded. To celebrate, The MAIN will be hosting the City’s 30th Anniversary visual art exhibit throughout the month of August. This exhibit will showcase images of Santa Clarita captured by local photographers, both amateur and professional. Also on display will be artwork that either reinterprets or is inspired by the City Seal.
Residents are invited to attend a free 1980’s-inspired art reception on Thursday, August 17 from 7:00 – 10:00 p.m. Participants will enjoy light appetizers, entertainment, an interactive art installation, and a chance to meet the artists.

Inspiration can come in many forms and often begins with a location, whether that be a town, city, or other locale. Here in Southern California, many people take pride in their neighborhoods. Whether it’s the skate park down the street, a favorite taco spot, or a location for solitude, people identify with specific locations and know they are not home until they reach that spot. This exhibit presents diverse artistic interpretations of local space and inspires artists to produce a wide range of works.

Jane Mick’s art will be exhibited at Fast Frame in Valencia for the month of July. A wine and cheese reception will be held July 29 from 1-4 pm.
Jane was born in London, England, but has lived most of her life in California. She began her career as a fashion designer but later in life worked as a graphic designer in the sign business. Jane has since focused her artistic talents on strictly oil painting. As a landscape artist, Jane creates a calm feeling for the viewer. Her paintings reflect silence, solitude, and emotion, through her perception of space and shadows. The surface of her paintings is as important as the image itself. The texture of the surface adds dimension to the painting, and within the texture the viewer finds colors that may not seem to belong but give interest to the painting. The mood of the painting emerges and changes as the work progresses.
When not painting landscapes, Jane enjoys painting what she calls “Paintings of Celebration”. Jane’s popularity is growing in this area due to the unique concept of combining wine bottles, wine glasses, and martini glasses with women or dancing couples fused within. This style suggests romance and sophistication. In contrast, Jane might combine brighter colors in her martini glasses with dancing figures to create a livelier and fun atmosphere. Jane’s dance background and love of the theater has inspired her to paint images like dancing couples hidden within the wine bottle as you feel the romance in the air. Some of the paintings also have words camouflaged within. Words give emotion to the paintings and come from Jane’s days of sign making. The paintings are great conversation pieces that bring new interest to home cocktail bars or dining areas as well as restaurants and hip gatherings.

Freda Morrison started almost two years ago as a student in the Virtual Art classes at the Santa Clarita Senior Center under the instruction of Mary Gallant, who became an inspiration. Under Mary’s guidance, Freda continued her artwork and eventually joined the Santa Clarita Artists’ Association (SCAA). After three months of Virtual Classes, she entered the 26th Annual 2015 Art Classic Competition of SCAA and won Best Overall Award in the Floral category.
Freda continues her Virtual Art classes at S.C.S.C. in the Advance class and is now the Instructor for the Beginning Watercolor classes on Friday from 2-4pm. (661)2976487.
