Local award winning artist, Sandy Fisher, will be exhibiting a selection of landscape and botanical oil paintings along with a variety of giclée prints starting on February 3rd and continuing through February 28th.

“Creative outlets have been a lifelong pursuit of mine and I turned to oil painting in 2005, and was blessed to win my first award.  Finally, I had found the direction and purpose of my creative drive.  Now, I cannot imagine doing anything else as painting is life itself for me. The landscape of the West and California, particularly the unspoiled open spaces of the coast, desert, valleys and mountains are my favorite subject matter.  I am especially intrigued by the play of light and shadow and the mingling of warm and cool hues, which captivate my heart and provides the catalyst for me to put brush to canvas in an effort to convey to the viewer my emotional response to the scene.” – Sandy Fisher

A “meet the artist” reception with appetizers and refreshments will be held on Saturday, February 10th, from 1 – 4 p.m.

Colors hold significance for people around the world. Not only do colors influence emotion, but they also hold meaning in religion in various cultures.  Red can indicate all things intense and passionate as well as sincerity.  The meanings of red and people’s reactions to it tend to be fairly consistent across all age groups and cultures.  Art in this exhibit features, highlights, or uses the color red exclusively in the piece.

College of the Canyons Art Gallery

The College of the Canyons Art Gallery begins the new year with “Budding Artists,” an exhibit featuring artwork created by the children enrolled in the college’s Center for Early Childhood Education (CECE).

“Budding Artists” will debut with a special open house event from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16 and will run through Wednesday, Jan. 31.

A silent auction fundraiser will also be held for the duration of the exhibit with proceeds going toward the CECE.

Auction winners will be announced during the exhibit’s closing reception from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27.

The College of the Canyons Art Gallery is open 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday. Those unable to visit the gallery during normal hours are welcome to contact the gallery to schedule a viewing appointment.

All gallery exhibitions and related events are free and open to the public.

In this exhibit by artist Sept, audiences are invited to explore his “Anti-Graphical” style that has no limitations. Born in Japan, Sept graduated from Otis College of Art and Design with a BFA in Advertising. He has completely abandoned all plans made during his four years at art school and has pursued his dream of painting as much of the world as he can in his lifetime. Sept’s style is based as of late on what he calls “A pinched nerve of the soul” and is, thus, hard to ignore. Utilizing lines and waves combined with brief studies in hand-drawn typography, he attempts to help people feel a little less alone in the world through his art.

Sept describes himself as a die-hard screen printer, painter, illustrator, and a full-time muralist who has attacked more than 442 walls with spray paint in less than four years. He has shown work at various galleries nationally and internationally, has been commissioned to design and create art for prominent companies, and has had his work featured on album covers and in music videos.

The gallery is free to visit Tuesday through Friday, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Residents and visitors are also invited to attend a free art reception on Thursday, January 18, 2018 from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Participants will enjoy light appetizers, entertainment, and a chance to meet the artist.

Award-winning artist Zony Gordon is showing her latest fall and winter art collections in watercolor and mixed media.  “Art of the Season” is sponsored by the Santa Clarita Artists Association, a community organization of more than 150 local artists in the Santa Clarita Valley.

Zony is a contemporary impressionist artist in Southern California. She is an award-winning local artist and a resident of the Santa Clarita Valley, where she is also an art volunteer and art teacher for students of all ages. “Her main medium is Watercolor & Mixed Media.

“There’s always a great abundance of amazing scenery, lush gardens and exotic wildlife in Santa Clarita and the surrounding areas which provide inspiration and zest for my art. I love rich vibrant colors that provide a strong contrast to the background of every subject. What truly defines the piece are the values of dark and light that interplay within the body of the art.” – Zony Gordon

The exhibit will be on display during the run of “A Christmas Story” at The Canyon Theatre Guild. The art gallery is open during business hours and all performances. A reception will be held on November 25 from 4-7 pm with wine, appetizers & dessert, and musical entertainment from Classical guitarist  Manak Khamvongsa, Balladeer Elisha Soronio, and accompanist Marc Soronio.

In this exhibit by artist Alex Cerda, audiences are invited visually explore the relationship between universal signs and sign language. Pieces in the exhibit fuse fine art techniques with contemporary compositions and urban materials such as reclaimed road signs.

“Our hands say a lot about our personalities and that’s why they are the focal point to my storytelling in this series,” says artist Alex Cerda.  Alex uses messages seen on common road signs as inspiration to showcase how the same words can be interpreted differently through hand signs and sign language. An artist from Whittier, California, Alex considers himself a visual poet and storyteller and his paintings are a snapshot of a moment within a greater storyline.

The gallery is free to visit Tuesday through Friday, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Residents are also invited to attend a free art reception on Thursday, November 16, 2017 from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Participants will enjoy light appetizers, entertainment, and a chance to meet the artist.
