Local artists Zony Gordon and Cecily Willis are featured in the “2 for the Road” art exhibit. Both artists use watercolor for the main medium. Cecily Willis specializes in realistic portraits, old historic locales, and icons of the city. Zony is an impressionist artist mostly focused on nature, including flowers, landscapes, and seascapes. She also uses mixed media as an accent on some of her art. Both artists are members of the Santa Clarita Artists’ Association.

Uncle Tim’s World of Birds is a series of 16×20 acrylic paintings, each united by a common theme or locale. Initial inspiration was provided by a squawking Western Scrub Jay perched on a branch of an ancient live oak in Ventura County. The project involved chasing birds around as well as very extensive research conducted through a vast number of libraries in no fewer than five Southern California counties. The artist dedicates these paintings to these wonderful organizations and the competent people who staff them.
Born and raised in Los Angeles, Timothy Doe grew up in an artistic household. His father was a successful illustrator and portraitist who had worked for Walt Disney in the early days, and Tim began dabbling in art at a young age. He soon found that his aptitudes and interests leant themselves to a wide variety of styles, media, and materials, so he put himself on the path to becoming a multi-media artist.
Tim has studied and experimented with Native American design & beadwork, Japanese landscape design, portrait painting, calligraphy, plein air landscapes, clay sculpture, cartooning, framing & matting, and abstract designs, as well as various obscure and little-known techniques and styles. He is a published author, as well as an accomplished self-professed archaist. A former circus advance man, he has travelled the Western U.S. extensively and has been the subject of feature newspaper articles in three different states.
The paintings in this exhibit were done in acrylics and produced over an eighteen month period. all were painted outdoors under shade trees in the natural light, primarily at parks in a wide variety of locales.

Featured artwork will include landscapes, florals, people portraits, horses, dogs and cats. The public is invited to view paintings in oil, watercolor, and pastel during the run of CTG’s play, Willy Wonka, from January 28 to February 28.
In her earlier advertising career, Kaczmar created layouts and renderings for patent applications, ads, exhibits and brochures. Her computer-generated famine-genocide posters have been shown in USA, Canada, Ukraine, France, Australia and United Kingdom. In 2007 & 2008, her art was used to promote a film and book on the Ukrainian genocide of 1932.

The Annual Student Art Exhibition takes place at the end of the spring semester and features examples from all the visual arts disciplines, including Painting, Drawing, Printmaking, Graphic Design, Photography, Animation, 3D Design, Sculpture, Illustration and Film. Students submit work that is then juried by an independent arts professional who curates the exhibition to showcase the best work. The exhibit provides students a rare opportunity to showcase their work publicly in a professional gallery setting. In addition to exposing the public to the arts present on campus, the COC Student Art Show also fosters a community for the visual arts in Santa Clarita.
The College of the Canyons Art Gallery is open for viewing Mondays from 11 am to 4 pm and Tuesdays through Thursdays from 10 am to 4 pm.
A reception for the artists will be held Tuesday, April 18th from 2 pm to 4 pm.

Every year, local artists gather and present their best work to be reviewed by a panel of judges and enjoyed by the public. The Art Classic is an annual awards show and gala fundraiser presented by the Santa Clarita Artists’ Association (SCAA). This year’s event, held in October, featured over 100 pieces of art in a variety of mediums, including sculpture, oils, photography, graphics, watercolor, and acrylic.
Works that received first place awards at the show are being featured at the First Floor Gallery located in Santa Clarita City Hall.

The pieces in this gallery have been submitted by students in grades k-12 and aim to bring awareness of the dangers of unsafe and distracted driving in Santa Clarita. During the first six months of 2015, Santa Clarita saw over 750 collisions. This is an increase over the previous two years during the same time period. While Santa Clarita’s collision rate is below the state average, we should still strive to improve City roadways for enhanced safety. Part of this effort requires us to change our driving behaviors. This exhibit hopes to encourage drivers to become more focused behind the wheel and to #DriveFocusLive.
