The LA SummerFEST, is announcing an open call for musicians for the 2017 season. The LA SummerFEST is an annual 5-week, summer cultural series that serves the North LA County region. The family friendly, free festival includes music, theatre performances, and special events. As part of the cultural series, there are three music festivals. Events are held at Rivendale Park and Open Space in Towsley Canyon.

On Monday (April 17), seven bands from the graduating class of The Herb Alpert School of Music at CalArts will perform live at The Troubadour, one of Los Angeles’ most legendary venues. Soundstream 2017, an annual concert event, features an eclectic lineup of artists performing original, forward-thinking music. The show is free and open for all ages, although reservations are requested.

In celebration of the first year of Santa Clarita’s adoption of the Arts and Culture Master Plan, Mayor Cameron Smyth will proclaim Tuesday, April 11 as Arts Day 2017. Arts Day has been acknowledged in Los Angeles for several years, and this year the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors at their April 4 meeting, proclaimed April as Arts Month.

The QS World University Rankings recently released its list of Top 10 Universities for Art & Design and CalArts is among the higher education institutions cited. CalArts ranks ninth out of a list that names United Kingdom’s Royal College of Art as the top university for Art & Design. Other universities included are Stanford University and Rhode Island School of Design.
