Perceptions of the Natural and Imagined by Nadia Lusian

August 5 – November 21, 2022

Newhall Community Center
22421 Market St, Newhall, CA 91321

Although I was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, I grew up in Maryland and New Jersey, where I received a B.A. with honors in Art/Art History from Upsala. I came to Los Angeles, explored a bit, then settled in and obtained a certificate in Graphic Art. This led to my career as a graphic artist and designer with Remo, Inc., where I created artwork for world percussion, textiles and large displays. I have since returned to my first inclination: brush painting with acrylics. I have done some teaching at Bella Vida, and recently joined the Santa Clarita Artists Association. To be a successful artist in our contemporary times is a daunting challenge. My most personally fulfilling works are those that synthesize what I see with a subliminal valence to instinctual expression. I endeavor to learn to trust in the spontaneity of inspiration, temper it with a refinement of technique, then stand back and perceive it come together to a place of pleasure, peace, or emotional voice. I appreciate the opportunity to share my work and hope some of it speaks to you.
