“Abstract Realism”?  Sounds like an oxymoron, right?  Abstract Realism is a real Art form that is a marriage of two contradictory terms, Abstract art and Realistic art. Abstract art exists through patterns, colors, texture and line without the need for an external motivation. Realistic art consists of art that aims to replicate nature such as Photography. When these two elements combine to create an abstract impression of real life, you get abstract realism. When I look at a tree, the branches, the roots, the bend in the tree limbs, how a ridge breaks on the coastline or an isolated cloud floating alone, or giant organic shaped boulders in the desert, my imagination tells me what colors I see, what textures cover a surface, what light I see and what happened just before I got there. It’s not about the information that is being transmitted to my brain by my eyes. For me, it’s about what story and images my imagination tells me based on what emotions I was going through at the time I visually experienced something. That is how I see.  That is what I put on the canvas.

About the Artist  

Brad Sergi’s mixed media paintings and photos have been displayed in various showings in Burbank and Santa Clarita such as B & R Gallery, city hall, the mall, various libraries and most recently sixty pieces at The Canyon Theatre Guild. Brad has worked as an actor, director, producer, writer, cinematographer and photographer for over 45 years in NYC, Los Angeles and Atlanta. The present works are a combination of a variety of steps and processes that combine, actual acrylic and oil painting, digital painting and photography.

The images in this display were created by a local photographer Mel Carll who had cancer and radiation treatment, but did not let that stop him from making art. Through the difficult ordeal, Carll continued to photograph, continued to create art and appreciated nature, and to live and love life. This exhibit hopes to remind everyone to stay positive, have a good attitude, and continue to love life.

Why live in black and white when you can live in color?

“Summer of Color” is an exhibit to simply represent having a great time and enjoying every moment of life! Each piece attempts to create a sense of happiness and positivity.  There’s always something worth smiling about.

About the Artist Madison Shafer

Drawing isn’t a hobby for Madison, it’s a lifestyle.  As soon as she was old enough to hold a pencil, Madison never put it back down. Madison has exhibited at conventions as well as toured with her comedy short film, “Squatch Out!” “I want to create stories through art that make people smile and connect with.” A lively and energetic spirit, Madison’s exuberance shines through in her artwork.

Santa Clarita Artists Association’s show, “This is America” opens on July 5. The exhibit will run until September 1, 2019.

Nineteen local artists members will be exhibiting their latest collections in a variety of mediums. There are many beautiful wall paintings, jewelry, decor items, small and miniature pieces for purchase. Some artists will provide live demonstrations on selected days during the duration of the show.

Drawn to what is brightly colored, clever and shiny, human minds can be captured through their own ingenuity. This piece is a plea for critical analysis and deep consideration of what ideas move us to action and what forces influence our beliefs and desires.

Reception
Please join the City of Santa Clarita on Saturday, July 13, 2019 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., at the Town Center Art Space at Westfield Valencia Town Center, for a reception celebrating the newest art installation “SNAP!”  Enjoy the art, meet the artists, talk to others that are excited about art, and enjoy light appetizers. The Town Center Art Space is located at the Westfield Valencia Town Center on the second level, near The Canyon Santa Clarita.

The Santa Clarita community is invited to the latest art exhibit reception for ‘Feminine Harmony’ by Fahimeh Shamsapour at The MAIN in Old Town Newhall. Guests attending this free reception on Thursday, June 20 will enjoy light refreshments and have an opportunity to meet the artist from 7-10 pm. The exhibition is open from June 19, 2019 to July 12, 2019.
