Nourishing the Earth

Newhall Community Center
22421 Market Street
Newhall, CA 91321

Climate change is intimidating. The impacts of it have certainly already been felt all over the world; record high temperatures, shifting seasons, and more frequent natural disasters to name a few. Some of these changes are irreversible, but that doesn’t mean further destruction can’t be prevented. As children, who are going to be the adults with no choice but to address climate change, we’d like to give ourselves the most opportunities possible to overcome it. But we can’t do it alone. Change begins on an individual level; however, it can effect not just yourselves, but entire communities and future generations.

The primary intention with this exhibit is to remind people that within each of us is someone with the potential to create change, and demand for your potential is greater now than ever.

Michele Boyer: A Retrospective

February 22, 2019 through June 21, 2019

Town Center Art Space, Westfield Valencia Town Center
24201 Valencia Blvd., Santa Clarita, CA 91355

Reception: Saturday, March 23, 2019 | 6 – 8 pm

“Artists create art because they must. I create what I must at that moment in time. My styles and materials vary out of a need to express my thoughts, feelings and techniques. Ideas put into tactile materials give me a sense of satisfaction and a desire to create new and different works. Art unquestionably comes from the inner spirit.”

Michele spent years working with Italian master sculptors in Pietrasanta, the sculpture center of Italy. Today she sculpts in her own studios in California and Italy, clay modeling and carving marble in small and large scale formats.

About the Artist
Michele Boyer is a Los Angeles based sculptor. Michele spent three months a year for 23 years sculpting in Pietrasanta, the sculpture center of Italy, where she rented space in marble-carving studios, bringing her own sculpture tools and buying the marble of her choice. The time she spent there infused a Mediterranean sensibility to the work. Themes in her work traverse subjects like the family nucleus to aspects of intellectual pursuits.  The abstract in nature is presented throughout her collection. Collectors of her work include: Penny Marshall producer, actress, director; Zza Zza Gabor actress; Stanley Black businessman, philanthropist, collector; the Jewish Home for the Aging and many others.

Michele works in many styles, contemporary abstracts, busts, figures, stylized figurative, and in diversified mediums, clay, bronze, alabaster, and marble. She also worked in foundries casting bronze from clay models, using the ancient lost wax method. The rest of the year she continued these practices in her own studio in Los Angeles, modeling clay and carving marble in small and large-scale formats.

Michele was born and educated in New York, where she studied costume design and the theater arts.  Her professional dance career continued while being married and raising her three children. Her transition into sculpture became as obsessive as her dance. She has studied sculpting at Every Woman’s Village, Northridge College, Barnsdale Art School, and Scottsdale Artist School.

The Collage Lab gets together monthly to experiment with the medium of collage, often throwing in mixed media and assemblage just for fun.

Collage describes both the technique and the resulting work of art in which pieces of paper, photographs, fabric and other materials are arranged and stuck down onto a supporting surface. Collage can also include other media such as painting and drawing, and contain three-dimensional elements.

Often times the Collage Lab artists are challenged to create a work from similar materials to see what each artist does with it.

Castles, Cottages and Countryside

June 1, 2019 through June 30, 2019

Fast Frame
24204 Valencia Blvd, Valencia, CA 91355

Reception: Saturday, June 8, 2019 | 1 – 4 pm

Laurie Morgan invites you to view her solo art show, Castles, Cottages and Countryside, at FastFrame during the month of June, 2019. There will be an artist’s reception Saturday, June 8 from 1:00-4:00pm.

The exhibit includes a selection of watercolor and pastel paintings from her travels, showcasing landscapes, florals and architecture. “I get a thrill rendering on canvas the sights I see in my travels around the world,” said Morgan. “I’m intrigued by historic architecture and most of my work contains part of a house, castle, cottage, cabin, barn or other structure. I love the history behind the buildings and ruins, and try to convey their stories. Many of my paintings have windows or doors, arches and pathways. These mean to me adventure, surprise and levels of spirituality. I’m also fascinated by man’s use of natural substances such as, stone, brick, wood and often add these to my work as well. Equally I love flowers and gardens and try to include them wherever I can. I often use my own garden for inspiration for many of my floral paintings.”

A local artist since 1988, Morgan is a member and past-president of Santa Clarita Artists Association and teaches art classes through ARTree. An award-winning artist, Morgan’s art has been exhibited at the SCAA Gallery of Santa Clarita, La Galeria Gitana in San Fernando, Santa Paula Arts Association Gallery, The Lonny Chapman Theatre in Noho, JET Studios in Noho, the Canyon Theatre Guild, The Main in Old Town Newhall, Fast Frame Valencia, The Valley Fair, and other art fairs and shows throughout L.A. County. Her original paintings and prints reside in homes and businesses all over the world. Her complete collection may be viewed at www.lauriemorgan.biz.

Canyon Theatre Guild

Newhall, CA  91321

“I’m very pleased to be invited to show my work again,” said Kaczmar.  The display will include landscapes, florals, people and animal portraits. This will be a new collection in oil, watercolor, and pastel during the run of ‘Moonlight and Magnolias’ and ‘The Importance of Being Earnest.

In her earlier advertising career, Kaczmar created layouts and renderings for patent applications, ads, exhibits and brochures. Her computer-generated famine-genocide posters have been shown in the USA, Canada, Ukraine, France, Australia and United Kingdom.

‘Moonlight and Magnolias’ is an epically hilarious small-cast comedy about the making of Hollywood epic ‘Gone with the Wind’ which was inspired by actual events!  ‘The Importance of Being Earnest’ is Oscar Wilde’s enduring Victorian comedy about mistaken identities and relationship hijinks, now proved to be a timeless classic!

Her whimsical, loose-style paintings, now exhibited around the world, range from blooms and gardens, to expressive landscapes, to abstracts, and the occasional portrait of people and pets.  See: www.bonnybutler.com

Butler currently has her first place mixed media painting hanging at the Santa Clarita City Hall and has six paintings hanging at the local Hyatt Regency. She is a member of the Santa Clarita Artist Association and has exhibited her art in the Fine Craft Show of Santa Clarita, Artisan Row Home Arts and Crafts Show and the Pasadena Jackalope Indie Artisan Fair.

“My art is a technique and process-oriented practice, which focuses on colorful expressive imagery,” said Butler. “My objective is to transfer to my audience the joy of creation through a constantly animated wealth of bold colors, shapes and form.”
