Community Wall

Now Open

Westfield Valencia Town Center
24201 Valencia Blvd., Santa Clarita, CA 91355

The Community Wall can be found on the upper level between Sears and the exit to The Patios.

The City of Santa Clarita, Westfield Valencia Town Center and the Castaic Union School District have partnered to bring you the Community Art Wall. For the next two months, the display will feature the artwork created by students in various grade levels, from Kindergarten to eighth grade. The art wall is a great way to showcase the masterpieces created using different art mediums, by students from Castaic Elementary School, Live Oak Elementary School, Northlake Hills Elementary School and Castaic Middle School. This offers an opportunity for students to bring their families and friends to see their creations on display, and for the entire community to enjoy art made by students from the area. The community wall is located in the upper level of the Westfield Valencia Town Center and alternates the art of students in the Santa Clarita Valley public schools.

Earth, Nature, Goddess

A solo exhibit by artist Julianna Aparicio-Curtis

Julianna Aparicio-Curtis captures the ethereal, fragile and majestic images of nature, the feminine form, and the luminosity of the natural world. Her surrealistic, abstract, and whimsical depictions of animals, nature, and the earth, has generated a large fan base, on social media, gallery, and her art shows. She has won several awards for her enchanting visions of women encircled in plant life and nature, her delicate seahorses, dragonflies and birds enveloped in saturated colors, textures and multicolored visions of the ecosystems of the forest and living organisms. She is inspired by nature and the mystical and organic essence that exists in all things of the earth, the feminine and beyond.

Julianna is an experimental, self-taught artist. She dabbles in anything and everything with color and form: paper, wax, fabric, inks, acrylics, collage, watercolor, and even broken metal. She is influenced by Gustav Klimt’s decorative eclectic gold masterpieces; Georgia O’Keefe’s enlarged simplified flowers; Frida Kahlo’s folk-inspired, magical realism, and Van Gogh’s bold expressed emotion. Julianna is a constant knowledge seeker; learning experimental unusual techniques. She is inspired by the imagination of her beautiful granddaughter. She adores gardening, is a certified Yoga instructor, avid reader, zealous traveler, writer, gourmet cook and singer. Julianna has a passion for the environment, women and young girls’ social issues. She hopes her art can enrich the senses, invoke strong feelings, inspire and bring joy and hope to young women and others who struggle with self-esteem.

Creatures Within

A solo exhibit by artist Señor Toony

I believe that Art reaches the hearts and souls of people in a more direct way than any other activity, therefore art is a responsibility. I like to think that art is one of the most powerful weapons making this world a better place.
Through “Toonymania,” the painting style that I created, my intention is for people to connect to their most positive emotions from the very first moment they’re exposed to my art, being able to disconnect from the real world and entering into a completely novel one. This journey begins as they discover what I denote as my “creatures,” all of which form and develop a bigger, deeper and more complex but enlightening piece of art. Each and every one of my so-called creatures are actually cartoons fixed as puzzle pieces, but as in real life, each piece has its own particular meaning; nothing is “the same.” Each piece is unique and is an essential part of the whole.
My artwork has a singularity, something that literally makes it “one of a kind.” Every single time you stand in front of one of my paintings, you will not only feel as if it’s the first time you’re seeing it, you’ll actually discover elements that you didn’t even know were there.
My hope is that the message I try to convey through my art be understood by everyone: a simple message of love, happiness, respect for nature, for ourselves and for others.

College of the Canyons

October 26, 2020 through December 12, 2020

We are delighted to bring you this exhibition of recent works by artist Brooke Sauer. Originally scheduled to exhibit with the College of the Canyons Art Gallery in the Spring, her one-person exhibition with us had to be postponed due to the pandemic. We share her work here, presented in a virtual format.

Brooke’s most recent works, gathered here in Out in the Blue, were born outdoors. Her evocative prints are inspired by hikes and adventures undertaken with family and friends, and explore wild and natural worlds as well as the interior worlds that she suggests spending time in nature (or with a good book) can open in all of us.

Created by combining painting with a photographic printing process called cyanotype, which gives them their rich blue color, these works are made using water, light, and the pressed plants the artist gathers while hiking. In a time when many of us are spending our days sequestered inside, her works cogently remind us that striving to conserve and connect to the natural world can provide deep possibilities and opportunities for renewal.

All That is Essential: The Mystical Mundane

A solo exhibit by artist Laura Hunt

“I seek to find the mystical in the ordinary. I believe magic is all around us, but we discount it simply because it exists. If a peacock were not real, it would likely live in our imaginations as a mythical animal, as magical as a unicorn. I want the viewer to see the world anew, and to be reminded of the awe and wonder that we take for granted in our everyday lives. I know that in these current times, especially, people are struggling for so many reasons. The world can feel grey, dismal, and even hopeless. But even during times of great strife, I want to help people see that there is still beauty in the world, by celebrating that sacred, magical ‘something’ in my art. I hope my work can serve as a moment of relief from all the stress and burdens of the world, and as a reminder of how beautiful life, the world, really is.”

Degrees of Illumination

A virtual gallery of the artist’s newest works.

Originally from Panama, Carlos is a self-taught mixed-media artist who always appreciated art, but never had any intentions of becoming an artist. Over time he went from just using crushed eggshells to other repurposed items like drinking straws, leaves, etc., but it was the suggestion from a co-worker to use shredded CDs as a medium that really took his next pieces to a whole new level.

Because art can be subjective, Carlos aims to offer an array of images, styles, mediums and more. With the use of recycled materials, he expresses his vision to reach a growing audience. Many of his recent works shown in this exhibit include broken glass, providing interaction with lighting.

As an art admirer, Carlos always gravitated to artists whose work seemed to be constantly evolving, so it seems natural that this would be Carlos’ goal: to try to find new expressions of mixed-media art with his preferred mediums, all the while giving hsi audience new manifestations of his creativity and love for art.
